OUR STORY
When we look back, we're amazed by the faithfulness of God. For a long time, we didn't recognize everything He was doing. We were simply living our lives, loving the people He placed in front of us, and walking through one season after another. It all felt very ordinary. Years later, we can see that what felt ordinary to us was God faithfully writing a story we never could have imagined. This is the story of His faithfulness.
It started with a home.
Well... sort of.
The truth is, it actually started before that.
Long before Bible studies around our table or people staying in our home, we found ourselves making room for people in everyday ways. Sometimes that meant driving college students to the grocery store because they didn't have a way to get there. Other times it was taking someone out for coffee or getting them out of the city for a few hours because they simply needed a change of pace. If someone was sick, we'd pick up tea, honey, groceries, or whatever we could, even if we only had a little ourselves.
Honestly, we didn't think much of it. We just cared about people.

When we moved into our first apartment together, that same heart naturally carried into our home. Before long, people were gathering around the table to share meals, study Scripture, pray, ask hard questions, laugh together, cry together, and simply do life together. Some people would come over for dinner, others would spend the evening with us, and over the years some even stayed in our home for a season.
As we think back on those years, we realize many of the people who walked through our door weren't just looking for a place to be. They were looking for a place where they could breathe.
At the time, we thought we were simply opening our home. Looking back now, we can see God was teaching us something much bigger. He was teaching us to make room for people, for honest conversations, and for whatever He would ask us to carry in the years ahead.
Then God said, "Go."
For a long time, we assumed House Upon a Hill would always look the same.
We imagined opening our home, gathering people around the table, sharing meals, studying Scripture, and continuing to make room for whoever God brought through our door.
Then, little by little, God began asking us to trust Him in ways we never expected.
Some of those steps made sense. Others didn't. Some were exciting. Others came with uncertainty, disappointment, tears, and more questions than answers. Through each one, He kept asking us the same question:
Will you trust Me?
Eventually, that journey led us to pack everything we owned into storage and follow wherever He sent us.

It wasn't the story we would have written for ourselves, but it became one of the greatest gifts God has ever given us.
As we traveled, we began experiencing hospitality from the other side. We stayed in the homes of friends, churches, and people God brought into our lives. We discovered what it felt like to need someone else to make room for us.
Somewhere along the way, we realized something that changed how we understood House Upon a Hill.
It had never been about one home.
It had always been about the people God placed in front of us and the places He invited us to serve.
The address changed, but the heart never did.
And we're still saying yes.
Today, we're still doing many of the same things we've always done.
We gather around tables, meet over coffee, have honest conversations, pray with people, build community, and continue making room wherever God sends us. Sometimes that looks like a shared meal. Other times it's walking alongside someone through a season of transition, helping them discover what God has placed within them, or encouraging them as they take their next step.
The places may look different than they did years ago, but the heart behind them hasn't changed.
The difference is that now we have language for what God had been teaching us all along.
House Upon a Hill was never just about a house. It was about creating spaces where people could breathe, belong, grow, and move forward in whatever season they found themselves.
As we look ahead, we believe God is inviting us into another new season. We're praying for a place where people can gather, build relationships, create, work, share meals, and find room to land during seasons of transition. A place where community can grow naturally and where people have the space to hear God more clearly, discover what He has placed within them, and step confidently into what's next.
We don't see that as the destination. We simply see it as another opportunity to keep saying yes to whatever God asks of us next.
